Plateau State Governor, H.E. Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has declared a 24-hour curfew in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis Starting from midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
The governor’s directive was conveyed in a press release signed by Gyang Bere, director of press and public affairs.
He stated that these measures were taken in consultation with state security agencies and after an investigation into the actions of some “unscrupulous persons” who took advantage of the nationwide protests to terrorize the innocent people in the affected areas.
Governor Mutfwang said: “The peaceful conduct of our people before, during, and after the nationwide protest is commendable. I urge everyone to continue to uphold this culture of peace as we work together to build a united and progressive plateau,”
Despite the peaceful conduct of participants in the four-day street protests, some miscreants armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons invaded some shops and restaurants along Bauchi road and Zololo junction in Jos north Local Government Area of the state and looted food and other valuables, before security authorities intervened to prevent an escalation of criminal activity.
